Testimonials
"On November 12, 2008, around 7p.m., I was sitting outside in the pouring freezing rain underneath a bunch of piled cardboard boxes. I wasn't alone. Next to me, was my friend Sarah, along with two other girls. One girl was more dedicated then I, she was the one who stayed overnight and all day under wet soggy cardboard boxes in the horrible weather. We got a lot of questionable looks. Inquiring glances. Hesitant greetings. Many people didn't even seem to want to look at us. Huddled in wet blankets, cold, outside, with only dim lights that lit the sidewalk showing our state. I could see it on their faces, but only a few dared to ask: "Why? Why would we stay outside in the pouring rain when it was only 40 degrees out? What were we doing under cardboard boxes with only the clothes on our backs and a few soggy blankets to keep us warm. Why?" Why ... well this question has multiple answers, but so does the answer to this question: Why are 3.5 million Americans homeless? Or how about the fact that there are more animal shelters then homeless shelters in the U.S. That 39% of the homeless population in the United States are children. These are true facts, and that is why I sat in the rain under a cardboard box. Because what I was doing was nothing compared to what homeless people have to experience everyday. And maybe, if people could realize how bad it is to be homeless, to put a face, even if not a real face, on an issue, people will stand up and make a difference. So I sat there in the rain, under a bunch of piled cardboard boxes, hoping to make a difference."
