Volunteer Center History
The CMU Volunteer Center is dedicated to developing active citizenship among CMU students by providing unique and dynamic programs, coordinating civic engagement efforts and facilitating networking among service leaders across campus. Working in conjunction with seven regional partners, the Volunteer Center seeks to uphold CMU's 2010 vision statement listing "service for the public good" as one of our university's institutional priorities.
The Volunteer Center houses a searchable online database of volunteer opportunities for CMU students (Volunteer CENTRAL,) coordinates civic engagement efforts across campus, and administers the America Reads and Lunch Buddies tutoring/mentoring programs, Alternative Breaks, the Safer Sex Patrol, the David Garcia Project, Males In Service, the Graduation Pledge, and the Adopt-a-Grandparent. Additionally, the Volunteer Center provides leadership for special events throughout the academic year, including: Issue Day, Nicholas Pietrunti Day of Service, Be My Neighbor Day, Valentines for Veterans, and a myriad of other events.
