Maxine Kent

Maxine Kent

Maxine Kent has been involved with the CMU United Way campaign for a long time. What originally attracted her to the United Way was the fact that it served a variety of causes and that the agencies providing those programs were monitored by United Way to ensure that the money was actually being spent on the cause and to minimize duplications of services. Currently, Maxine serves on the United Way committee. She has served on various committees, including Chair of the Board for three terms, and as Campaign Chair for CMU Fund Drive for one year and was a member of the United Way Board from 2000 to 2007.

Maxine believes that the United Way is the one organization that looks at a variety of things from basic care to prevention, youngsters to elders and affects everyone in this community. Statistics show that every family will receive the benefits of an agency associated with United Way at least once in their life time, whether the family has a fire or are caught in a natural disaster, need counseling, need eldercare or more basic items. United Way is one o f the few agencies that has such a broad impact on the community. Along with her work with the United Way, Maxine is also a member of the Board of Central Michigan Community Hospital and works with the CMU student SHRM group. Maxine believes that it is important that everyone tries to give back and encourages everyone - students, faculty, and staff to participate and get involved.

Kim Roberts

Kim Roberts

Kim Roberts, a senior from Deckerville, has been actively involved in service throughout her academic career at CMU. Kim has been involved with the SIBS program as a general volunteer and as the Publicity/Sponsorship Chair. Washington's and learning about civil rights and civil rights leaders.

Currently Devera is involved with Michigan Service Scholars, a program where students can earn a $1,000 educational award upon the completion of 300 volunteer hours. Devera has also volunteered with the Zonta Apple Festival, is active as a facilitator with the David Garcia Project, and has participated in the Alternative Breaks program, volunteering with issues such as Animal Rights, Child Education, Hunger and Homelessness, Elderly, Health, and Disabilities.
