Sherri Hutchins

Sherri Hutchins has been selected as the Volunteers Are Central staff and/or faculty winner for September 2008. Sherri was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) nearly five years ago. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she has become actively involved with the Michigan Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She actively recruits friends and family members to be a part of her fundraising team for Walk MS, one of the Multiple Sclerosis Society's biggest fundraising events. Her team, "Hutch's Hoofers," has grown to nearly 30 members and has collectively raised thousands of dollars over the past four years, more than $5,500 in 2008 alone. The funds generated go toward finding a cure for MS. Sherri's team has been recognized state-wide for their fundraising efforts. Sherri is an incredible example of what a dedicated volunteer should be, she gets excited about her fundraising efforts and encourages others to be also.

Sarah VanDuinen

Sarah VanDuinen

Sarah VanDuinen has been selected as the Volunteers Are Central student winner for September 2008. Sarah is Grand Bethel Honored Queen of Michigan Job's Daughters. This is the name for the state-wide President, for a Masonic youth organization for girls ages 10-20. She is responsible for helping plan leadership weekend, workshops, running eight state-wide meetings, and mentoring the entire Job's Daughters members in Michigan. She helps them to learn leadership skills, time management, and helps run the Grand Bethel state wide officers at the youth level fundraisers. She is also in the planning stages of planning the next state-wide convention with the adult council. She also volunteers her time representing Job's Daughters to all the other Masonic organizations throughout the state by attending their conferences, receptions, etc. She speaks at each of these events on behalf of Job's Daughters. Sarah unselfishly gives of her time and is a fantastic role model.
